I love the boxer engine sound. They almost sound broken all the time, but they also sound down right angry and determined. Very unique sound they make, and the sound is identifiable from a mile away the same way a rotary engine sound is. Even someone who isn't all that into cars could easily learn to identify a boxer or a rotary engine sound.

Not a big surprise the time difference as Group N really didn't allow much modification - you even had to keep the rear seats. Heck, my standard 1995 Impreza Turbo 2000 road car had 208 HP, and my 1999 model had 215, so their rally car with a restrictor must be down on that. Do this same test with a proper Group A Impreza which had a least 300 horsepower and upgraded everything then compare the times.

I hoped for a fair comparison... Real Impreza WRC from 90s was limited to 300hp by rules and had much higher torque, so I hoped for a comparison with similar spec Impreza from present day and see how much the technology progressed. Comparing new car with 350hp with the old 200hp car is unfair and the result obvious before even starting the engine... Heck it's even possible that present day car with 200hp would loose with that old bugger as the old one is probably lighter :-)

Racing a '90s group N against a modern A-spec rally car is unfair. But you can't take a '90s Group A rally car against a new one. The older one had active differentials while the new one doesn't. The old Group A had a 34 mm restrictor, not a 32 mm and produced somewhere between 300 and 330 hp (300 for gravel). BTW, the old Impreza won the World Rally Championship. The new one didn't.

Lol, gotta sell them new WRXs. Fact is pound for pound the GC/GD with the same amount of money in them are *significantly* faster than the new cars which are several hundred pounds heavier as a base line. Early GD was basically the pinnacle for Subaru racing and it has continually gone down hill from there.

This comparison makes no sense. Plus, the driving was nothing like real life rally driving in the WRC, and not only. I've seen the old blue Subaru on WRC at the time, and it was everything, but slow. So, lots of dust and sound, inaf to impress a teenage girl, but not a guy who has seen lots of WRC.
